The Karaoke Beat

The Intelligaia team worked on creating a site in Drupal to provide karaoke enthusiasts worldwide a place to interact and share their experiences online, while also delivering a wide array of premium editorial features, useful tips, and trusted information.The basic aim was to provide karaoke-specific content, dynamic and thorough advertising, and a dedicated focus on creating the most interactive and engaging user experience for karaoke enthusiasts on the web.

Description

The project had many modules like audio, rating, Google map, Google news, forums (PHPBB) etc. The front end was required to be completely operated by the admin. Our talented designers created a neat interface clearly demarcating modules like Karaoke Beat Meter, Community, Karaoke News, KJ of the Month, Karaoke Bars and Clubs and a Karaoke Blog Meter. Members could vote/rate a club and KJ. At the end of a month, a KJ and club would be declared the winner according to rating/voting. Members could also suggest their own bar and clubs. There are club listings with markers shown on Google map. The blog meter graphs the interest and popularity of karaoke in the blogosphere. Specifically it shows how many blogs have written about karaoke in the past 30 days.

Challenges

Universal login for site and its forum (PHPBB)- Both Drupal and PHPBB are content management systems, and these two integrate with each other. When a user logs in Drupal, the user should also be logged in PHPBB. This functionality is called universal log-in. Because of variation in our MYSQL version, the related function did not work resulting in the user being unable to log in forum. So we made a function and passed the arguments by direct use of config variables. The variables passed to this function (for MYSQL 4 function) and it worked properly.

Javascript errors appeared whenever the map would load- We realized that Google API should be used in head tag of template to overcome the error.
