Prototyping the Future, One ‘What If’ at a Time

Design fiction sparks creative discovery by asking, "What if?" Now a key tool in strategy and foresight, it helps executives see beyond business metrics to anticipate future possibilities.
Using design fiction, Intelligaia reimagined the B2B Commerce process by mapping 8+ unique journeys into a subway map infographic, identifying overlapping steps, streamlining workflows, and enhancing transparency for partners, resellers, stockists, and internal users. This visualization also pinpointed automation opportunities to accelerate approvals and optimize the end-to-end process.
The Design Fiction workshop uncovered key pain points, including unclear customer touchpoints, disconnected data across the customer lifecycle, and user struggles with fragmented applications. These insights guided the reimagining of the future state, streamlining workflows and improving the overall user experience.

From Pain Points to Possibilities.

The Design Fiction workshop uncovered critical challenges—unclear customer touchpoints, disconnected data, and fragmented applications. By addressing these gaps, we reimagined a future state that streamlines workflows, enhances user experience, and unlocks new business opportunities.

Participants in the Design Fiction workshop crafted future stories by exploring key questions: What future are we designing for? What trends, technologies, or challenges should we consider? Most critically, they imagined a tool that solves B2B Commerce problems—defining its form, function, and impact.

Designing What’s Next in B2B Commerce

In the Design Fiction workshop, participants envisioned the future of B2B Commerce by tackling key questions: What future are we designing for? Which trends, technologies, and challenges should we anticipate? Most importantly, they imagined groundbreaking tools that solve real-world problems—redefining workflows, enhancing transparency, and unlocking new possibilities. Through collaborative storytelling and strategic foresight, we’re shaping innovations that don’t just respond to change but drive it.

The new prototype introduces future-ready innovations like a Smart Quote Hub, approval visibility, and personalized dashboards with live updates. A timeline UI streamlines B2B Commerce processes, enhancing transparency and efficiency across quoting, approvals, and operations.

The proposed new UX/UI tested with AEs emphasizes their ability to delegate manual tasks and focus on strategic activities.

Design Fiction explores three types of futures: Preferable (what we want to happen), Plausible (what is likely to happen), and Possible (what could happen). Our design concepts align with the preferable future, crafted after deeply understanding the current state—shaping innovation toward ideal outcomes.
Testing preferable future ideas with the target audience revealed a 40% reduction in task time, fewer support cases due to automation, and improved efficiency. Customers felt more confident using the new design, leading to a significant increase in customer satisfaction scores.
